I’ve finally watched Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. FF7:AC is the sequel to Final Fantasy VII, but in movie form instead of game form.

The plot makes no sense, and seems to work in order to get all the major characters into the movie. Although aside from Cloud, Tifa, and the villians, the rest of the characters just have token lines. This movie at times was beyond implausible, but that is OK since well, it’s based on a video game. Actually, the sheer exageration of some scenes is cool, as there are some crazy fight scenes that wouldn’t have happened even in The Matrix. Oh yeah, all the faces of the females seem to be rendered the same as Tifa’s (except Aerith). I guess they found a pleasing design and rolled with it?

Watching this got me thinking, when I played Final Fantasy VII, I used Cloud and Vincent, but I can’t remember the third person. I used Aerith until her untimely death, but none of the other characters seem to strike my memory. In any case, now I am tempted to play again, but 60+ hours is so long!

I give this 3 out of 5 stars, it’s a good action movie that tries to tie into the plot of FF7.
