I watched Kung Fu Hustle in two parts. I watched the last half first as part of Iron Ring Chef, and then I re-watched the beginning the next day. Kung Fu Hustle premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2004, and it has taken me till now to actually see it (blame it on my DVD backlog). It’s a fun mix of a variety of styles, from Stephen Chow’s Shaolin Soccer comedy/character style, to Matrix fighting effects to traditional Chinese Kung Fu stereotypes to Looney Tunes to Dick Tracey.

Although I understood the story, and back story (lollipops), they don’t seem to be credible nor do they flow well. But if you’re only in for some laughs, then it’s no problem at all. I’d give this movie a 3.5 out of 5, find it at your local Chinese mall.
