last night, i went to my first ever NFL game and saw the seattle seahawks beat the minnesota vikings. i’m not a big football fan (actually i’m not a football fan at all), but the chances of me ever going down to buffalo to catch a game is like, zero; and a nfl team will never come to toronto, so i went to take a look. it was a preseason game, but the crowd was still very very hyped about the home team. there were even a groups of people here and there that were vikings fans! i imagine that football is america’s equivalent to hockey, and you know how crazy fans in canada get about hockey. anyways, beyond the hey, cool it’s a big stadium that i’ve never been to factor, the game was pretty boring.

while we were a little late (game starts at 6?!) we had pretty good (read: expensive?) seats at the end zone. the only problem with that was you couldn’t really see anything except when the play was in the end zone. so in the second half we moved to a better viewing location. the game didn’t really pick up until the fourth quarter where the vikings were ahead by 4 and looking to win, but the seahawks made two successful field goals, the last one with 3 seconds remaining to steal it. it felt like we had won the superbowl when the last field goal was good. anyways, i’ll have pictures up shortly.

the stadium was located downtown, so rather than drive we took the bus (“special event parking” was $20). the bus is actually pretty neat, because it goes on the highway and there are actual bus stops on the highway. in the seattle area, some lanes on the highways are designated high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes, which are basically car pool lanes that should bypass the traffic congestion (seattle is one of the worse areas in america for traffic), so getting around on the bus is not that slow (the caveat to that is there’s no subway). there are also racks on the outside front (the “hood”?) where bicyclists can store their bikes while taking the bus. bus-ing it really came in handy on the way back when there were cops directing traffic!
