The Leafs are bombing this season, and even though coach Paul Maurice guaranteed that they would make the playoffs (and compete for the Stanley Cup but we can realistically ignore that as hyperbole), it looks like the only guarantee is that one of Maurice or JFJ Jr. will lose their jobs at the end of the season (if not before). The season started with typical inconsistent Leafs play. The would win one, and then lose one, and then win one; they couldn’t put together any sort of streak.

The last couple of months have been better, we’ve consistently been doing the same thing; that is, consistently winning or losing. There was a string of loses awhile back which made it seem like the rumored heads would roll, but then the Leafs put together a string of wins. They’re back on their losing ways now, and have lost the last four games (and they weren’t even close).

This has led to increased rumors about trading Sundin, who signed a 1-year contract at the beginning of the season. One rumor I heard was to deal Sundin to Sidney Crosby’s Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for sophmore slumping Jordan Staal, another highly-rated prospect in Angelo Esposito and two high draft picks. I find that suggestion ludicrous (from Pittsburgh’s view) as it would be an incredible price to pay for a short term rental. So I would all for it as a Leafs fan, although I expect management to screw it up somehow.
