I was afraid that the lens that I bought was a lemon or broken in some way since I couldn’t use it the other day; but fortunately for me, that does not seem to be the case. This is good because, now I don’t have to go through the hassle to return or exchange it.

The bad news is that the problem is with my camera body. Nikon lenses that have an aperture ring has something called an EE Servo Coupling Post which pushes a little switch on the lens mount to tell the camera that the minimum aperture has been set (you can see this at around 7 o’clock). This “minimum aperture detection switch” is slightly broken off on my body, which is why the camera thinks that the minimum aperture hasn’t been set. I guess I will have to fill it in with some tape or something.

The weird part about this is that it was working, I took a couple of pictures, and then it broke without me changing lenses. Oh well, hopefully I can fix it tomorrow.
