I haven’t made my way downtown, and spent some time walking around in quite a while. It seems weird, because I had so much enjoyment during high school just walking around Bloor, down Yonge, across Queen, beating the heat in Eaton Centre, and eating cheap (in both sense of the word) food in Chinatown. Now, with a physical limit on the amount of CDs I can own staring down on me, I haven’t gone on a serious CD crawl in a long time. Maybe I don’t even have anything to crawl for.

It’s a lot like going to malls. I wasn’t really a mall rat in high school, but I would head to STC one or two times a week to just mope around, do some rail hanging, or sit around in the food court. Then, during undergrad, I became disillusioned with malls and only went there to feed my consumerist ways.

Maybe it’s a sign that I no longer want to spend discretionary income on random things, that I don’t feel the need to go to malls, or downtown anymore. Sure, dt T.O. is like one of those friends that you want around, but eventually you realize that that friend is superficial. You can get the same content surfing the net, and you don’t have to wear out your shoes.

So my suburban life has pushed downtown to the periphery of my to visit list, but I do get nostalgic thinking about it. The only problem, is that I can’t think of anything I need to do down there.
