although this is my last term, i’ve done the amazingly smart thing of taking it hard on myself. i have four term projects and two and a half presentations this term; of which 2 projects and one presentation are due next week.

one of these projects is for my databases course and it’s great because we’re supposed to be a hospital database with a web front end; it’s something that i’ve done before many times and uses technology that i’m familar with. i should be glad that for once in my university career i get a project that is a piece of cake and requires no thinking on my part (although it’s very menial and time consuming). anyways, i would be working away at it at the moment except the stupid servers that we’re supposed to run the database on at school are all down right now; probably because the engineering buildings are suffering yet another power failure. how are you supposed to do a database project with a database?

this is just about the last straw when it comes to technology at waterloo. for the best technology school in canada, it rates far far behind in terms of actual implementation of technology. we didn’t have campus wide wireless until a year or two ago, our computers were running windows 95 until last year (they’re still crappy p3s or something). we have keyboards that don’t type unless you slam on the keys, our highly regarded coop systems was still paper based until recently and the long awaited web interface is now hated by both students and employers.

people ask why students at waterloo are deadbeats, well my reason is because i came hear expecting that waterloo is the technology school in canada, but in reality it is less funded than your local devry.
