i bought one of those sony cybershot-u series cameras online. the camera itself isn’t too much better or worse than the one i have now. it’s 2mp, no zoom, 33mm lens but much smaller than my old one (vs 35mm, zoom and bigger). at fry’s i saw several compact cameras that would have been very good replacements for my old olympus, including the awesome casio exlim ex-z30, and at some point i think i will get a better and more compact camera. but the point of this one i bought is to have a camera small enough that i can carry around with me all the time. my user model is kinda like the stupid fob thing where you can hang it around your neck, but i’m going to put it on my keychain. i thought about getting a phone with a camera, but when you consider a decent camera phone such as the nokia 7610 only has a 1mp resolution and goes for $400-$600, i think at this point it’s smarter to buy a cheap camera and cheap phone. (aside: i wonder if my parents need a hand-me-down digicam?)

i’m getting the camera shipped by UPS ground and tracking it online, but it seems like it’s taking forever to get from minneapolis to seattle; it’s been on the way for 48 hours already! anyways, the more i have to deal with UPS the more i hate it. the other day, i had to ship a letter quickly to waterloo and it cost me $28, and when i asked them about shipping my CDs back to canada they said that UPS would cost $30 more than USPS!
