Some thoughts on my mind about music lately:
I think I figured out the process behind writing a Black Eyed Peas hit:
- Get yourself behind a soundboard
 - Tinker with soundboard to find something that sounds cool™
 - Fill in remaining 4 minutes with random music and words that namedrop some recent things
 - Split up vocals fairly evenly between Fergie, Will.i.am and that Latin guy

I have a mp3 collection of songs that I ripped from CDs and “bought” from iTunes. Basically a legal collection. But recently, I have been thinking that I need to also include promotional mp3s that artists give away. They’re perfectly legal as well, and sometimes it will be along time before I buy them (if ever) .
On the same lines as that thought, I came across a RCRD LBL which is a site hosting free (and legal) music downloads. It was started by a couple of labels and has one or two singles from many indie artists. You won’t find much by well known top40 people there (unless they are remixes) but it’s a good resource if you want to get your own copy of an indie mp3 instead of streaming it from Youtube or MySpace.
