the side effect of there being a tim horton’s or a starbucks on every street corner is that they have become a third place in the lives of a lot of people. but where did people go before these things showed up? the library? maybe i was too young to notice then, but it seems like a third place is very important so there must’ve been some generational equivalent. also, why is it that there are timmy’s all over the suburbs but in downtown it’s mostly starbucks?
