those cd towers that hold 20/50/100 cds are useful for storing music, but at some point once you’ve accumulated over 100 cds, you start realizing that having numerous towers or racks to store them is a huge waste of space. that presents an interesting dilemma; how do you store all those expensive cds (100 x $15/cd + tax = $1725!) without having a room for cds in your house. you could start chucking the cases and putting your cds into binders/sleeves, but like most other obsessive collectors, i like my liner notes and funky translucent colored cd cases. luckily i was moving so i threw out lots of stuff i didn’t need, but sadly i kept every single one of my cds; which means my cd collection is growing like your average obese american teen.
so here’s the solution, a couple years ago i started storing my cds in boxes. 2 columns wide, about 50 cds per column, and one layer high with their spines facing up so i could see which cds were which. it worked out well because there wasn’t all that excess wood/padding between the cds so the density was much higher, although people were always wondering why i had boxes of tomatoes in my room. unfortunately, boxes of that quality were hard to come by and i was running out of room in the boxes that i had. as luck would have it tho, i went to ikea and found that they had started making cd storage boxes similar to my mine but without the tomatoes. so of course i bought a couple and was pretty happy at that; but best of all, i had room for new cds again! so now i can resume my regularly scheduled cd buying habit which had grown stagnant recently due to the lack of space.
