I had downloaded a clip from the Daily Show where Keira Knightly was on promoting her new film awhile ago, and this weekend I finally realized what film she was promoting when I saw her in Pride and Prejudice.

It was entertaining. There were certain scenes that were done very well, such as the scene at dawn with Mr Darcy and Lizzie on the back drop of the rising sun. Also, I believe that there was a scene when Lizzie was walking outside and it instantly started raining; I was like a-ha pathetic fallacy!! That must have been from the book.

While I never had a chance to read the book in English class (so it seemed like a film from England to me — gosh now I know how fobs feel when they’re watching Hollywood movies, everyone speaks so rapidly), the structured dialogue didn’t pose too much of a problem. I’m surprised that most of these literary to movie translations have much easier to digest english than actually reading say Shakespeare or something.

On the other hand, not having read the book did hurt my comprehension. There was one scene where Lizze was twirling around in a swing which I later realized was to show the passing of Fall/Winter. I never caught on to it but once I knew, it made a lot more sense.

Anyways, 4 out of 5. Long but some excellent cinematography and set design.
