i guess i’ve been lucky because i haven’t bought anything that offered a rebate recently. it seems that manufacturers are very often deliquent in their rebates duties. it’s a pretty serious problem; if you’ve browsed through any flyers that advertise electronics or office supplies lately, most of the advertised prices are after one or more rebates. so if the rebate system doesn’t work, you’re actually paying much more than was advertised.
