it seems that japanese youth are beginning to have a computer literacy problem because they only access the web from their cellphones. that’s so wrong and counter-intuitive since they’re supposed to be on the forefront of technology; but then again maybe it’s our fate to evolve and lose our attachment to desktops.
i just don’t understand how they would find the small screen of a cellphone to be acceptable. i can barely use a 1024×768 resolution anymore, so how would i be able to surf on a 128×128 screen? more importantly, how in the world are they supposed to save things like the latest xtina pics homework solutions? i just can’t get my head around the logistics needed to use a cell phone as a web browser. i can’t even see how pocket pcs can handle web browsing properly.
in the linked article, i found this quote particular striking:
Users are given information over cell phones — they don’t proactively look for it. This passive acceptance of ‘push’ content reflects a fundamental problem with Japan’s educational system.
i think this is the stuff that the american government is hoping their population will do so they can eliminate free thought and expression. if this passive acceptance continues, i wonder how long we’ll still see cool new tech gadgets from japan?
