For some reason this year, I was really excited about the Grammies. It’s odd because in the last couple of years, it wouldn’t even register on my radar. Tonight, I sat through the entire ceremony and watched it, even the stupid commercials! In addition to that, I live-blogged it, well kinda because I wrote it all offline and just posted it together. Here goes:

  • The was a lot of hype because the Police were opening the Grammies, and kicking off their worldwide reunion tour. They ended up playing only ONE song (at least it was Roxanne). I figured they would play a medley or somthing…
  • Tony Bennett and Stevie Wonder beat out Nelly Furtado’s Promiscuous and Shakira’s Hips Don’t Lie for best Pop Collaboration…wow
  • The Dixie Chicks are performing, which means that America is really moving away from a Republican regime. Remember, these guys chicks were banned from the radio for speaking out against Bush
  • Oops, dinner time
  • Ok, I’m back, what’d I miss? Did the Dixie Chicks say anything dumb?
  • JLake is performing, and playing the piano. OMG he’s not a manufactured pop act anymore; he’s a real artist because he plays an instrument.
  • I just saw a commercial for Chantal Charmandy. I’ve never heard her music on the radio or otherwise, but I keep seeing advertisements for her. I first heard about her from an ad on the side of a TTC bus advertising her CD single on sale at Dollarama. No joke.
  • Stevie Wonder is introducing an act, how is he reading the teleprompter?
  • John Mayer’s performing Gravity. Nice, but there are better choices. But he wins the Best Pop Vocal Album!!
  • Lol, Gnarls Barkley is dressed up as the military. These guys have the best costumes
  • I don’t think I paid attention to the last half an hour, too much country music! BUT I did hear a teaser when cutting to commercials, that Christina Aguilera is still ahead. So I’m still paying attention!
  • Imogen Heap, shown in the nominations for the best new artist, has a plant growing in her head!
  • I have no idea what song Christina Aguilera is performing…I’ve never heard it before, and it’s not very good.
  • Ludacris is pretty dressed up tonight, as are most of the hip-hop genre. It’s weird seeing them dressed like this
  • I liked James Blunt’s performance. It was very low-key and felt like Muchmusic’s Intimate & Interactive. One difference I noticed was that his accent was audible during his live performance, but not on the recording.
  • My Grammy Moment’s coming up, I’m excited but not sure why because this is just their version of American Idol
  • When the winner of the My Grammy Moment was announced, the winner had a look of “oh shit” on her face haha, but she was able to walk onto the stage and just go. Wow, staged or real?
  • Wow that was a fun performance, the winner (Robyn Truce?), Timberlake, and Timbaland were in sync and had chemistry. I guess all the 3 nominees had a lot of practice with stand-ins beforehand.
  • The Dixie Chicks seem to have the most trouble figuring out what to do in their Thank-You speeches, but they kept winning…aah
  • I’ve been digging Snow by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and I’m glad they played that instead of Dani California
  • Al Gore’s made it to the big time, he’s presenting at the Grammies. But he still speaks like a politician.
  • Whaaat Scarlett Johansson is recording an album??
  • WTF Dixie Chicks won again, this is they’re 4th award tonight…
