Today, I spent the afternoon setting up my demo exhibit for CASCON (turn up the sound, it was eerily quiet when I recorded this).

Of course, things don’t go as planned especially since I packed away my equipment almost two weeks ago. A few days after the equipment was safely sent off, management came to me and wanted to add new parts to the demo.

So today, I stood around and 1) started downloading hundreds of MBs over a ~24kB/s connection. That was a problem, but it just took time. Meanwhile, I loaded my newly created slide presentation onto the machines only to find that there was no Microsoft Office installed. This was solved by downloading the free Powerpoint Viewer and configuring the slides properly on my friend’s machine.

Finally, I was assured that a particular piece of software would have downloaded its license previously and that I could use it offline without any problems. This turned out to not be the case, so I had to run around and find the proper license. I never did find one that works, so my demo is slightly hobbled, but at least it works.
