i think fido’s new cell phone plan, where suscribers can call other fido phones for free will be successful because of viral marketing. take for example, your normal subscriber with an unlimited evenings/weekend plan who has 2 or 3 people they talk to a lot (using fido). for $25 a month, you could talk to them anytime of the day as much as they want to instead of racking up airtime bills. so the subscriber champions the idea and convinces his friends to switch. i think $25 is cheaper than whatever plan they’re on anyways. now let’s assume that those original 3 people each have their own little cell-phone cliques of 2 or 3 people, so then they hear about how they can all gossip without wasting their precious airtime minutes and they’re sold on the idea too. you can see where this is heading, and instead of bankruptcy, fido can laugh all the way to the bank (unless of course everyone subscribes to the plan and fido can’t handle the load). i also saw a clever ad for hallmark in the metro today. there were two cards side by side, both of which celebrated a new baby, one for a boy and one for a girl. underneath there was a caption stating that hallmark had cards for even the most unexpected events, including blackouts. heh. it’s only been a week since the blackout so their turnaround time was pretty quick; wait a minute, what if they planned the whole thing? hrmm…coincidence? or CONSPIRACY?
