I haven’t been playing many games on mobile lately. I think it’s because I haven’t been able to find any that capture my interest or attention. Here’s a couple that I’ve tried briefly, recently

Eras of Alchemy
The point of this game is that the citizens of earth have been destroyed by an asteroid strike and you, a robot, are tasked with evolving the planet’s creatures back from fossils. You combine 2 simpler animals to make a more complex one. You don’t have a lot of clues, but you can pay for some more (i.e., freemium game). The idea sounds interesting in theory, but the touch UI is a bit clunky and I was just not attracted to it.

Monument Valley
I bought Monument Valley with some free Amazon coins, mostly because it’s been hyped and I was interested in seeing what the hype was about. It certainly does live up to its MC Escher-esque atmosphere and sometimes the puzzles are mind bending (because they obviously don’t work in real life, but do in this environment). It’s a premium game, so you have to pay $4 for the experience. It’s also a short experience – you can complete the game in one sitting. I was certainly on my way to this until the game crashed at level 9 (2 levels from the end). I think it has something to do with the architecture of my tablet, and since I have no way to transfer my save over to another Android device, I’ll have to wait a bit to finish the game. I have no rush though, because neither the story nor the gameplay is not that interesting. I would classify this more like spending $4 for an artistic experience, rather than playing a game.
