i want to see what’s gonna happen in the baseball season, not the penant races and trade deadline stuff, i really want to see mlb blow itself up. for the last little while i always thought how baseball was screwed cuz players’ salaries were too high and that there should be a salary cap like basketball to keep everything in check. i also thought that the owners’ complaining that they were losing money was just funny accounting (for the most part, tho teams like montreal do seem to be penniless). newayz i had always felt inclined to agree with the owners; that there should be cap on the salaries and revenue sharing etc…and it wasn’t till today that i realized that maybe the players didn’t do anything wrong and could come out on top after the bargining. basically there’s some basic economics in play…if clubs are gonna pay players so much, then they’re gonna have to break even somehow; the cost of watching/attending a game can only be so much before people will feel it’s not worth it…so an equilibrium should eventually be reached. as for only the rich teams competing…the twins, expos, athletics have proved that philosophy wrong…for the time being. but i hope everything goes to hell in the next year or so…bigass strike, contraction of teams and such…it’ll be the most exciting thing to happen in baseball since the jays won the world series!
