While planning our Chicago trip, we used a Google Map to plot the locations we wanted to visit. We had about 30 locations, which was a bit too many things to do in 2 days. Especially when 20 of them were food-related items!

But there were a still things that we HAD to try. One of these was Chicago deep dish pizza. We had a couple of places picked out, PIzzeria Uno was where deep dish pizza was first invented, Lou Malnati’s pizza is also well known, but we ended up going to Giordano’s.

We actually ended up at Giordano’s for a mid-afternoon snack, but even then I thought we should’ve gotten a couple of pizzas to sample different varieties. We ended up getting only one pizza, and it was a small! Good thing too, because the dish was deep and filled with cheese. I think you would puke if you ate a small pizza by yourself. In the end we didn’t try actual deep dish pizza, because Giordano’s is known for stuffed pizza, which is actually a variant.

The other thing we wanted to try was a Chicago-style hot dog. We originally wanted to go to but then we were hanging out at a McDonald’s we went to the website and learned that the restaurant would be on vacation while we were in Chicago! Bummer. Instead we went across the street and tried a hot dog at Portillo’s.

In the end, it’s just like a hot dog that has been “dragged through the garden”, but it’s still a hot dog! And plus, Toronto’s Italian sausages are still better!
